PiniPico Brazilian Café (1538 N. Clark St.), the Old Town café serving traditional Brazilian baked goods and coffee, will celebrate its first anniversary in business during a two-day celebration on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Saturday, May 22, the café will offer its signature Brazilian item, Pão de Queijo for just $1 (regularly $2, limit three per customer). The traditional cheese bread is a century-old Brazilian favorite made from cassava root (naturally gluten-free) and filled with an array of ingredients ranging from bacon to Nutella.

On Sunday, May 23, 20% of all sales will be donated to BUILD, a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention and youth development organization based on Chicago's West Side. PiniPico Owner Luciano Dias and family have been supporting the organization since the café opened in May 2020. BUILD Art Program Director Ric Miranda designed and painted the mural of Rio de Janeiro seen by guests as they enter the café.

Since 1969, BUILD has helped Chicago’s most vulnerable youth escape gangs and violence to become positive leaders in the community.

“Having opened during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020, we feel especially grateful and humbled to celebrate this important milestone,” says Founder and Owner Luciano Dias. “We invite Chicago in to commemorate our anniversary by enjoying our Brazilian treats and support a cause that is working every day to give at-risk youth an opportunity for a bright future.”
