New Menu Limited Time Only Indian Mexican Bucktown

What to Expect

Two years after opening its doors, Mirra is celebrating its second anniversary with a new tasting menu that brings the restaurant back to the story that inspired it from the beginning.

On August 17, Chefs Rishi Manoj Kumar and Zubair Mohajir launch The Journey of La China Poblana, a new seven-course tasting menu inspired by the woman known as La China Poblana—and Mirra’s namesake.

Since opening, Mirra has grown from a Indian-Mexican concept into one of Chicago’s most nationally recognized restaurants, earning a Michelin Bib Gourmand, being named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America, and landing on The New York Times’ list of the 23 Best Restaurant Dishes in America for its Chaas Aguachile. Chef Rishi Kumar was also named a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Great Lakes.

For the team, the new menu feels like a continuation of that journey.

The Journey of La China Poblana traces the legend from India’s Malabar Coast through capture, migration and the voyage across the Pacific to Puebla, Mexico. Each course represents a chapter of the story while showing how Mirra’s own Indian-Mexican culinary language has continued to evolve over the past two years.

The seven courses include:

  • Court of Hindustan: Yellowfin Tuna Tiradito with coconut moilee, ginger and curry leaf
  • Separation: Warm Octopus Roulade with tamarind-chili vinaigrette and fennel salpicón
  • The Spice Route: Banana Leaf Fish Tamal Colado with tomato masala-saffron sauce, seafood chorizo and tomato achar
  • The Galleon: Duck Carnitas with lemongrass and hoja santa arroz cremoso and annatto oil
  • Puebla: Lamb Loin with Mirra mole and silky corn purée
  • Catarina: Mango Semifreddo Sphere with chamoy
  • La China Poblana: Pastel de Elote with rompope-saffron toffee and vanilla ice cream

The menu will be available August 17–October 9 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with seating at 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The seven-course menu is priced at $150 with an optional beverage pairing for $75. Reservations are available via OpenTable.
