On Sunday, April 14th, the pastry cases at the Mag Mile’s airy French cafe Venteux will be adorned with Eastern European offerings from Astoria Bakery. After moving from Irving Park out to Chicago’s Lisle suburb in 2021, the bakery is bringing its pastries back to the Windy City for one day only. Guests can choose from Eastern European-style pastries and cakes, prepared by mother-and-daughter duo Suzi and Tanja Jeftenic. Their approach to cooking showcases a blend of traditional recipes and culinary creations from the Balkan region, including krempita, a vanilla custard slice made with puff pastry & Chantilly cream, flakey burek filled with cheese, spinach or beef, and knedle, a potato dumpling made traditionally with plums, but also offered with Nutella and fruit. Indecisive guests will be able to order a sampler featuring slices of Astoria Bakery’s most popular cakes such as creamy Nutella or velvety Berrylicious. The offerings will be available from 9am to 2pm or until they sell out.
