Inside the story: Call Your Mother Deli Coming to Chicago
Call Your Mother is officially opening its first Midwest shop in Wicker Park on May 19, 2026. The Wicker Park location will also house their kitchen where the bagels are mixed, boiled and baked daily.
Founded by husband-and-wife duo Andrew Dana and Chef Daniela Moreira, Call Your Mother is known for its take on classic Jewish deli fare.
The brand first started as a tiny stand at a farmer’s market in DC before growing into a neighborhood deli across DC, Virginia, Maryland and Colorado.
“We’ve wanted to come to Chicago forever,” said Andrew Dana. “But we wanted to make sure we did it the right way. We spent a ton of time in the city, getting familiar with different neighborhoods and we instantly knew Wicker Park was the move. The vibe is electric and it just feels like home. And it will be home... because Dani and I are actually moving out here for a while.”
Call Your Mother intentionally chose to build the bagel bakery directly into the neighborhood. Peer through the glass in their dining room and watch their work unfold behind-the-scenes as you chow down on your bagel. Creating more than a shop, but a genuine home base for the team in Chicago with job opportunities spanning hospitality, baking, culinary operations, and leadership.
“One of the things we’re most proud of is seeing people build real careers with us,” Dana said. “A lot of the folks helping to lead the charge at Call Your Mother started in entry-level shop roles. When you build the culture the right way, we’re able to open more doors for our team. We take that part really seriously.”
The Chicago shop will feature Call Your Mother staples including its honey-sweetened bagels, signature sandwiches, babka muffins and coffee, alongside light-hearted design touches and nods to the surrounding neighborhoods.
“Chicago people know food,” said Chef Dani Moreira. “That’s what makes this exciting. There’s so much pride and personality in the city’s restaurant scene and we hold that close to our hearts. We know the love and joy we pour into our food will be felt....and tasted.”
The opening marks Call Your Mother’s first shop in Chicago and its first step into the Midwest as they continue to expand.
“At the end of the day, we just want to make people feel good. That’s the whole thing. We’re still figuring everything out and learning from the new challenges that pop up every day. But we’re having fun with it and we’re super grateful to throw down roots here in the Windy City.”
