Amidst a long first few days of 2021 already, Chicago restaurants are still getting creative and offering something fun & safe to do and distract from this January. 

Here are some new experiences available this month:

Recess's Fire & Ice Outdoor Pop-Up
Stroll through Recess's patio exploring ice sculptures and snapping a photo at many Instagram photo opps. Once you're done perusing the winter wonderland, head over to one of the firepit tables to toast some s'mores while sipping on a warm specialty cocktail, included in ticket purchase. Open weekends Friday through Sunday throughout January. Adults are $15 and include a cocktail, s'mores and pretzel stick. Kids are $5 and include a snowflake crafting kit. Sepia and Proxi's Virtual Culinary Weekends
A two-day culinary retreat in the comfort of your home with the team at Sepia & PROXI. On Saturdays, they are offering a virtual wine tasting hosted by Wine Director Jennifer Wagoner. On Sundays, cook alongside Chef Andrew Zimmerman as he guides guests through using Michelin-starred techniques from his own home kitchen. The wine from Saturday pairs with the dishes you’ll make on Sunday. Pick-up the wine and the ingredients for the Sunday Supper at the restaurant on Saturday.

Celebrate National Soup Month at Chez Moi

Chez Moi is offering a special Soup Duo ($14) for National Soup Month in January. The duo features Vichyssoise - potatoes, onions, leek, butter, and cream - and Gumbo - gumbo filé, rice, shrimp, chicken, tasso ham, okra. The duo will be available to order all month long in January. 

Paul Bocuse Gourmet Box for 2 at Chez Moi

Treat yourself to a date night at home with Chez Moi's special Paul Bocuse Gourmet Box ($99) from January 1st - 20th. The box features Escargot de Bourgogne, Chicken Fricassee, and Chocolate Lava Cake as well as a bottle of Henri Perrusset, Mâcon-Villages, Bourgogne, 2017, ChardonnayThe box is in memory of Paul Bocuse, Chef Dominique's former mentor, for the anniversary of his passing in January 2018. The box is dedicated to Bocuse with Chicken Fricassee being one of his signature dishes. 

Order a King Cake from French Quiche

King Cake will be available at French Quiche for two upcoming weeks. The first is January 6th - 10th to honor Kings Day in France also known as the Epiphany. Kings Day is believed to be the day the three kings presented their gifts to Jesus after his birth. The King Cake will also be available from February 12th - 16th in celebration of Mardi Gras before the Lenten season. King Cakes are available in an individual size ($9) or full size ($28). They are made with almond flour, butter, eggs, sugar, puff pastry, and milk. 

Chez Moi and French Quiche are both available for carryout and delivery through Uber Eats.

Uvae Kitchen and Wine Bar January Virtual Wine Tastings

Uvae Kitchen and Wine Bar in Andersonville has unveiled their January wine tasting schedule with tastings every Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. from January 6 through January 30. The tastings will only be available to attend virtually at this time in response to the latest restrictions banning indoor dining announced by the state of Illinois. 

The tasting is $30 per person and features 4 four-ounce pours, interactive Zoom or in-person tasting led by Uvae Sommeliers and guest wine makers along with a PowerPoint presentation and tasting sheet. Mocktails for Dry January at I|O Godfrey

At I|O Godfrey, Corporate Director of Food & Beverage Grant Gedemer features mocktails with flavor and presentation including:  

  • Mint to Be (Choice of Peach, Strawberry, or Raspberry Acai with Muddled Mint, Raspberry Purée, Fresh Lime & Lemon & Ginger Ale) ($8) 
  • Peach Out (made with Blueberry, Yucca Peach Tea, Muddled Agave, and Rosemary) ($8)

National Hot Chocolate Day at Fairground Coffee & Tea

On January 31, Fairgrounds will be offering guests 20% off their purchase of the Vosges Hot Chocolate when purchased in store, and 50% off the hot chocolate beverage when purchased on the Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea mobile app. 

Fairgrounds Coffee & Tea, in partnership with Chicago-based Vosges Haut-Chocolate, brings an elevated indulgence to guests. The sweet treat features Vosges fair trade drinking chocolate served with a black salt coconut caramel marshmallow.
