Special Events River West

The Dawson introduces a new musical series, Upstairs at The Dawson, every Wednesday beginning January 16th. After a summer spent camping outdoors on the patio, the party is moving indoors and upstairs this season. The second floor of The Dawson, complete with a full bar will transform into acandlelit jazz club with live music, specially-priced cocktails, and menu favorites for all guests who head upstairs.

To kick-off the new music series, The Dawson will host an Opening Act event on Wednesday, January 16 from 7 to 10 p.m. with a complimentary welcome cocktail, small bites and live music.  Guests can RSVP via Eventbrite with complimentary entry fee (space limited). Additional drinks and food available for purchase.

Bringing warmth to the winter months will be live performances curated by musician and filmmaker, John Sutton, a noted bass and cello performer who will also perform weekly.  Music will occur from 7 to 10 p.m. and will feature a rotating schedule of up and coming artists and established acts with special guests.

For the Upstairs series, head bartender Erik Hmiel will offer a monthly rotating menu of classic cocktails from various prohibition era cocktail books. The first in the series are from Harry Craddock's, The Savoy Cocktail Book (1930).  Patrons can sip their way back in time with storied selections, all available for $13, including the following:

Fallen Angel | dry gin, lemon, lime, crème de menthe, angostura bitters

Maiden's Blush | dry gin, grenadine, absinthe, lemon, orange curacao

Millionaire (no. 1) | Jamaican rum, apricot eau-de-vie, sloe gin, grenadine, lime

Trilby Cocktail (no. 2) | blended scotch, sweet vermouth, parfait amour liqueur, absinthe, orange bitters

To match the classic cocktails will be Dawson menu items, meant for sharing, including chicken fried lobster, chorizo fondue and Texas redfish tacos. The full dinner and dessert menus will also be available until 10 p.m. No cover or entry fee and the upstairs will open at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. The Dawson will also continue its monthly beverage classes, Dawson Beverage Academy, the second Sunday of every month with the first on red wine on Sunday, January 13.
