This Wednesday, July 7, The Original Rainbow Cone and Buona: The Original Italian Beef will open the first restaurant combining two Chicago offerings in Darien.

The opening is part of the renovation to an existing Buona location, expanding the location’s footprint to 4,600 sq. ft. to seat about 100 customers indoors and 60 outdoors on the location’s covered patio, featuring a fire pit. The expansion will also offer curbside pickup, an indoor kiosk for advance ordering and dual drive-thru lanes, where guests can pick up pre-packaged pints and quarts of The Original Rainbow Cone’s ice cream.

The Buonavolanto family entered into a joint business partnership with The Original Rainbow Cone’s Lynn Sapp two years ago, ensuring the continuing legacy of the Chicago ice cream treat and expanding the brand’s footprint into new communities.

Since launching the partnership, The Original Rainbow Cone opened a new standalone location in Lombard in May of 2021 and just expanded their fleet of ice cream trucks from one to five this summer.

The Original Rainbow Cone opened its first location in Beverly 95 years ago in 1926, and began its first expansion to Navy Pier in 2016.
