Tanta (118 W Grand Ave) is celebrating Perú’s Independence Day all weekend long with festivities kicking off on the official holiday, Thursday, July 28th, and concluding on Sunday, July 31st. Guests can immerse themselves in Peruvian culture with three exclusive Chef’s Table dinners that will be complemented with traditional Peruvian folk dancers and live music. A Peruvian Independence Rooftop Party will also be taking place on Tanta’s vooftop where Peruvian street fare and cocktail stations will be scattered throughout with a South American trio band performing. 

Thursday, July 28th: Peru Independence Day

In honor of Perú’s Independence Day, Thursday, July 28th, Tanta hosts the Consulate General of Perú who will make a speech in commemoration of the holiday as well as introduce Tanta's live entertainment–  music trio, Guitarra, Cajon y Zampoña de Arequipa Perú, and the traditional Peruvian dancers. Tanta’s very own Chef Roberto Rocha will also be highlighting the exclusive Peruvian dishes that will be offered throughout Tanta’s three-day chef’s table series, a five-course tasting menu where Perú’s history and culture will be explored. NBCUniversal's Telemundo news crew will be on-site on Thursday, July 28th for filming.

Thursday, July 28th-Saturday, July  30th: Chef’s Table Experiencia Perú

From Thursday, July 28th through Saturday, July 30th, Tanta presents “Chef’s Table Experiencia Perú.” With sixteen seats available per day, guests will experience first-hand the history and culture of Perú’s food and people as Chef Roberto Rocha provides guests with an inside look on the dishes presented to them. Each day, a 45 minute Cebiche & Pisco Sour class will begin at 5:00 PM, followed by a five-course tasting menu curated by Tanta’s very own Chef Roberto Rocha at 6:00 PM. Here, guests will learn of the history of Perú and the inspiration behind each dish as they taste the flavors presented. The Consulate General of Perú will join the group on the first night, Thursday, July 28th. 

Tickets for this event are $75 per guest and do not include beverages. Attendees must be 21 years of age and older to participate. Each course will be served individually but seating is communal. Purchase tickets via Eventbrite.

Specials are available a la carte and not included in the exclusive 16-person five-course menu.

  • Thursday, July 28: Pachamanca + $10 Pisco Sours – Chicken Leg, Beef cheeks, pork Shoulder, tamal marinated with Andes herbs, huacatay, choclo, sweet potato, fingerling potato, carrots, fava beans, and corn. Pachamanca is a traditional cooking method from the Andes of Peru, where meat and vegetables are cooked underground in rocks, marinated with herbs and Peruvian chilis. $10 Pisco Sours will also be available all day long!
  • Friday, July 29: Aji de Gallina – Creamy chicken stew, aji Amarillo, parmesan cheese, quail eggs, Peruvian olives, served with rice and choclo. A traditional Peruvian chicken stew in a spicy, nutty cheese sauce.
  • Saturday, July 30: Seco de Carne – Slow–braised short ribs, aji mirasol, chicha de jora seco limeno sauce, yuca, carrots, lima beans, and criolla salad. The gastronomic roots of this dish date back to numerous generations, a product of the Arab influence that the Spanish brought with them during colonial times. Seco was originally prepared in the northern part of the country, but it is now eaten all along the coast of Perú.

Sunday, July 31st: Peruvian Independence Rooftop Party 

Tanta will be hosting a rooftop party featuring Peruvian street fare and cocktail stations scattered throughout the rooftop, available from 12 PM-3 PM. While biting and sipping on authentic Peruvian cuisine and drink, guests can also enjoy live music from SUR2, a local South American trio. 

This ticketed event is $45 per person (all ages) and includes guaranteed admission to the rooftop and four vouchers to redeem for food and drinks. Additional vouchers will be available for purchase at $13 per piece. The day of entry will be limited based on capacity. Purchase tickets via Eventbrite.
