Deuce's Charm'd Pop Up

St. Patrick’s Day pop-up Charm’d has officially returned to Wrigleyville. The pop-up re-opened February 10th at Deuce’s (3505 N Clark Street). 

Deuce’s is the team behind other pop-ups like Santa Baby, Rudolph’s, Nightmare on Clark Street, and Major League Bar, and they’re back with Charm’d, multi-room, multi-level Irish experience featuring wall-to-wall Irish decor, lucky charms, multiple bars, social photo-ops and a whole lot of leprechaun mischief.

Additionally, Charm’d will be hosting a few spring floral workshops on Tuesday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 15 from 6pm-8pm. 

Details: 

  • For $55, expert instructors from Blossoms Anytime & B Collective will lead you through the creation of your very own spring floral arrangement.

  • Each participant receives: 1 glass of champagne (21+), spring flowers to build your arrangement and a vase.

  • Additional food & drink may be purchased during the event. Tickets can be booked online.

Kennedy Rooftop

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at Kennedy Rooftop, fittingly named after the First Irish-Catholic President, JFK. For a limited time, the rooftop is also offering private igloo reservations with special food and drink packages and a rooftop curling rink for a little friendly competition and fun. 

Thorn Restaurant Lounge

Thorn Restaurant Lounge, located inside The Rose Hotel in Rosemont, is offering a classic Rueben special on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 for those traveling in and out of town, with house braised corn beef, sauerkraut, aged swiss, Thousand Island dressing, rye bread, and side of fries; and their draft beers will all be available to turn green.

Oaken Bistro + Bar 

Oaken Bistro + Bar will be offering specials for celebrating on Thursday, March 17. Stout-Braised Beef Tenderloin Tips with Colcannon Potatoes, Candied Bacon Green Beans, and a variety of drinks on special including Irish Mint Juleps with Propert Twelve Irish Whiskey, Margaritas and Green Draft Beer.

Five Iron Golf

Five Iron Golf, 108 North State St, the indoor golf and entertainment experience, is offering St. Patrick’s Day options. From March 12-20, guests can transport themselves to Ireland through playing a variety of Irish courses, including Adare Manor and Lahinch Golf Club on Five Iron’s golf simulators. To add to the fun, visitors may choose from $5 Green Bud Light Drafts, $5 Jame-O Shots, $10 Guinness and a Shot of Jameson, a Corned Beef Sandwich Special, and more. Additionally, $1 from every green beer purchase will be donated to St. Baldrick’s throughout the week.

On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, guests can test their luck from 5-7 p.m. and compete against the Five Iron golf pro leprechaun on a closest-to-the-pin on Royal County Down in Northern Ireland (on TrackMan)! From the international aisle to the bakery, Mariano's stores are filled with Irish products like Green River Soda (local to Chicago)Guinness Chips -- thick-cut, crispy and seasoned with a blend of barley and hops resulting in a bitter and sweet flavor reminiscent of the Irish stout; Barry's Tea -- an Irish household staple since 1901; Mariano's Soda Bread -- baked fresh in-house daily around March 17, the soda bread is a vehicle for butter and jam and comes both with and without raisins; Bailey's Irish Cream; Reuben Sausages -- handmade sausages made with corned beef and sauerkraut in one flavorful link; Kerrygold Butter -- this Irish butter uses milk sourced from grass-fed cows, resulting in a soft golden yellow color and rich flavor that's ideal alone or used in recipes; and Jameson Ginger Ale & Lime -- this ready-to-drink canned cocktail blends ginger ale and lime with Jameson Irish whiskey and is a lower ABV option for St. Patrick's Day.

If you are interested in a recipe with an Irish-twist, Aaron Browning, chef at Queenie's Supper Club, recommends Irish Sea Chowder:

INGREDIENTS:

4 slices of bacon, diced
4 ounces butter
1.5 cups yellow onion, diced medium
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 cups red potato, diced large
1 tbsp flour
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
1 2/3 cups clam juice
10 ounces cod filet, cut into large pieces
10 ounces salmon filet, cut into large pieces
8 ounces shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 ounces crab meat
Parsley and chives to garnish

DIRECTIONS:

Saute diced bacon in a large pot until brown and slightly crispy. Remove bacon but leave fat. Add the butter to the bacon fat and melt. Add the onion, celery, and garlic and sweat in the butter until soft. Add the potato and cook for a couple minutes. Stir in the flir and cook for one more minute to make a roux. Add the milk, cream, and clam juice and bring to a boil while constantly stirring. Once the soup is boiling it will get thick. Add the cod, salmon, and shrimp. Return to a boil then simmer slowly until the fish is cooked. Turn the heat off and gently stir in the bacon and crab meat. Ladle into bowls and garnish with chopped parsley and chives.

This St. Patrick's Day, All Too Well — the newly opened Lebanese-inspired deli in Lincoln Park — will be offering specials on sandwiches and spreads for dine-in and takeout. On Thursday, March 17, All Too Well will be offering:

  • Guinness Cheese Spread - $6

All Too Well, is a new sandwich shop and market concept in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. From Mitchell Abou Jamra — Chef and Owner of Evette’s Chicago — All Too Well will offer artisan sandwiches, grab-and-go items, Passion House coffee, cured meats, cheeses, everyday essentials, locally sourced goods, and more. Located at 352 W. Armitage Ave., the store will offer in-store shopping, a small dining area, as well as pickup and delivery via third-party apps.

Taking a page from his Market & butcher shop roots, the grab-and-go section will highlight a selection of handpicked cured meats, cheese, and accouterments for creating charcuterie and cheese boards as well as classic Lebanese mezze style meals. Created by Jamra, the sandwich menu features creative twists on the traditional sandwiches from his past.

Bernie's Chicago

Bernie's (660 N Orleans St) will be offering St. Patrick's Day specials from Saturday, March 12th to Thursday, March 17th. For $15, guests can select a Rueben Sandwich made with corned beef on toasted marble rye bread, topped with Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing; available for lunch and brunch. To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Lottie's Pub (1925 W. Cortland St) has festivities lined up ALL WEEK long:

JoJo's Candy Land Pop-up is happening at the moment which has a special area designated to St. Patrick's Day with a Jameson Throne, Rainbow Blow-up with a Pot of Gold, and more. To go along with it they also have a St. Patrick's Day Specialty menu featuring their Get Lucky Shake and Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate in addition to themed alcoholic beverages like Green Beer. The Get Lucky Shake is a minty shake topped with rainbow sugar cookie, a pot of gold dodo, and a chocolate-covered pretzel, while the Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate has a shamrock s’more, chocolate covered marshmallow, a chocolate-covered pretzel, and marshmallow fluff.

Venteux, located on Michigan Avenue is a French brasserie located just steps away from the Chicago River, will be offering downtown visitors multiple ways to partake all week long in honor of St. Patrick’s Day with Irish-inspired brunch, shamrock cookies, St. Patrick celebratory cocktails and more:

Snag one to serve as an accompaniment to corned beef and cabbage or for a snack with a pat of butter. Stan’s Donuts & Coffee is offering St. Patrick’s Day donut varieties this holiday season. Urban Market

Urban Market offers a variety of different options, but for this St. Patty’s Day, they have whipped up Shepard’s Pie and Irish Pork Stew and Veggies by Chef Noe Sanchez.

Irish Pork Stew and Vegetables

Ingredients:

        •       4 to 5pounds bone-in pork shoulder
        •       Cut of meat in to cubes
        •       1/4 cup all purpose flour
        •       2 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
        •       2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
        •       3 tablespoons canola oil
        •       3 medium yellow onions chopped (about 5 cups)
        •       1cup pound brown or butt mushrooms quartered
        •       1 tablespoon  caraway seeds
        •       2 cups Irish Beer any brean
        •       2 cups chicken broth
        •       2 Dried bay leaves
        •       4 carrots peeled and sliced about 1/4" thick
        •       1 pound  Yukon Gold or small red potatoes quartered
        •       1/4 cup chopped Italian flat leaf parsley
        •       1 teaspoon cumin
        •       1 teaspoon chili flakes

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 300°F.
  • Trim the boned from the pork shoulder and set aside. Trim the fat from the meat (and discard) and cut the pork into 1-inch cubes.
  • In mix bowl combine the flour, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper. Add the pork and mixed well
        
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large oven-proof Dutch oven over medium-high heat Add the meat to the pot so it covers the bottom of the pot evenly and cook for 3 to 4 minutes before moving so that the sides brown nicely for a total of about 8-10 minutes. Transfer the meat to a bowl      
  • Reduce the heat to medium and add the last 2 tablespoon of oil to the Dutch oven and heat until it's shimmering. Add the onion and mushrooms and cook until the vegetables just begin to soften, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the caraway seeds ,cumin and chili flakes and the 1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper and cook for another 2 minutes or so.             
  • Add pork cubes Dutch oven and top with the Add the Irish Beer ,chicken broth and bay leaves then raise the heat and bring to a boil, and stir and scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  • Cover the Dutch oven with the lid and transfer to the oven to cook for 1 hour.

  • Remove the pot from the oven, give it a stir if you'd like, and add the carrots and potatoes, cover again and put back in the oven for another 1 to 1 1/2 hours until the carrots and potatoes are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.            
  • Remove the pot from the oven Add the parsley and stir everything together, taste for seasoning and add more salt or pepper if needed. Serve immediately hot.

Beef Shepard's Pie

Meat Filling:

        •       2 tablespoons olive oil
        •       1 cup chopped yellow onion
        •       1 lb. 90% lean ground beef
        •       2 teaspoons dried parsley
        •       1 teaspoon dried rosemary
        •       1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
        •       1 teaspoon dried cumin
        •       1/2 teaspoon salt
        •       1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
        •       1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
        •       2 garlic cloves -minced
        •       2 tablespoons all purpose flour
        •       2 tablespoons tomato paste
        •       1 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
        •       2 cup frozen mixed peas,carrots & corn
        •       
Potato Topping:

        •       -2 lb. Yukon gold potatoes peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
        •       2 stick of unsalted butter
        •       1 cup sour cream
        •       1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
        •       1 tablespoon salt
        •       1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
        •       1 cup ground parmesan cheese

Instructions

Make the meat filling - 

  • Add the oil to a large heavy duty skillet and place it over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Add the onions. Cook 8 to 10 minutes, stirring.
  • Add the ground beef (or ground lamb or ground turkey )to the skillet and break it apart Add the parsley, rosemary, thyme, cumin ,salt, and and pepper. Stir well. Cook for 8 minutes, until the meat is browned.
  • Add the Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Stir to combine. Cook for 2 minute.               
  • Add the flour and tomato paste. Stir until well combined.       
  • Add the broth, peas and carrots, and corn. Bring the liquid to a boil then reduce to simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring.
  • Set the meat mixture aside. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.Make the potato topping.
  • Place the potatoes in a large pot. Cover the potatoes with water. Bring the water to a boil. Reduce to a simmer. Cook until potatoes are fork tender, 10-15 minutes.               
  • Drain the potatoes in a strainer. Return the potatoes to pot. Let the potatoes rest for 3 minutes
  • Add butter, sour cream garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mash the potatoes and stir until all the ingredients are mixed together.               
  • Add the 1/2 off the parmesan cheese to the potatoes. Stir until well combined.

Assemble the casserole or pie dish - 

  • Pour the meat mixture into a 9x9 (or 7x11) inch baking dish. Spread it out into an even layer. Spoon the mashed potatoes on top of the meat. Carefully spread into an even layer.
  • If the baking dish looks very full, place it on a rimmed baking sheet so that the filling doesn’t bubble put the rest of parmesan top Bake uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes in too golden brown cool 15 minutes before serving.

The hotel's steakhouse, Torali, is presenting two limited-time cocktails for St. Patrick’s Day, including ‘The Wired Irishman’, a mix of Irish whiskey and Starbucks cold-brew, and the ‘Paloma Irlanda’, a twist on a classic traditionally served with tequila, the mixologist team at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago is swapping it for whiskey, falernum, and bitters.

STK Steakhouse

All week long, STK Steakhouse will offer their $6 lil’ Corned Beef Sliders with Tater Tots and their Leprechaun Stiletto – made with Vodka, fresh cucumber, and mint – during Happy Hour from 3:00pm to 6:30pm (3/14-3/18). The Lil’ Corned Beef Sliders are also available for lunch, dinner, takeout & delivery.
