What to Expect

Siete Azul - a new coastal-inspired Mexican restaurant and bar from 24-year-old owner and operator Luis Zendejas - is targeting a late October opening at 2333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Logan Square.

The seafood-focused menu draws on his interpretations of family recipes, his roots in California and Michoacán, and travels to Mexico City.

Zendejas - who graduated from DePaul University in 2023 with a degree in finance - grew up working alongside his parents at their restaurant Las Islas Marias in Wheeling. In recent years, he became an equal partner in the family business.

His first independent restaurant builds on that foundation with dishes including purple masa shrimp empanadas, butter-lime scallops with poblano sauce, tacos al pastor, and slowly grilled whole red snapper with guajillo-tomato sauce.

Designed by 555 Design, the 70-seat restaurant in the former Chicago Diner space takes its name from Siete Mares, the traditional seafood soup served at his family’s restaurant, and the blue of the ocean.

Siete Azul will open as BYOB. The full bar program - featuring specialty cocktails, beers, and wines - is expected to roll out in mid-November. More information, including the official opening date and full menus, will be coming soon.
