Deli Lincoln Park

A closer look: Schneider Deli Debuts Second Location in Lincoln Park

Schneider Deli, the delicatessen by husband-and-wife duo Jake and Ariel Schneider, is opening its all-day outpost in Lincoln Park on Wednesday, April 1st. The second location marks a new, bigger chapter in the couple’s love letter to deli culture in the midst of a bagel boom that’s sent the city’s sandwich scene into overdrive. Expect stacks of pastrami, a full coffee counter with an expanded menu of locally roasted offerings, and a sense of chutzpah-laden charm that invites latke lovers to linger in its bright and airy space.

Perched at 1733 N Halsted, the new 1,750-square-foot deli will seat 41, doubling the capacity of the original location. With additional room and longer operating hours, the deli will serve as a third place for the community as the day shifts, from a quick pop-in spot to a place to work-from-and-nosh; the team also welcomes folks in for private events, family celebrations and after-work gatherings. The space balances nostalgia with a current touch, keeping it all in the family and featuring pink interiors designed by Jake’s aunt and uncle at Becker Architects. As a reflection of Jake’s lifelong reverence for Jewish fare, the walls are filled with family photos and memories of the experiences that have shaped him into the steward of deli culture he is today.

“Schneider Deli has been a real labor of love,” says chef/owner Jake Schneider. “Lincoln Park is the perfect place for us to start our second chapter, and opening here is our deli dream come true. The Chicago community has shown up for us from the start, and we’re excited to serve as an all day gathering space for this truly special neighborhood.”

THE NOSH

The Lincoln Park deli features the half-sour pickles that honor Jake and Ariel’s roots in the pop-up scene, and will take center stage alongside the house-cured fish, crisp latkes, pastrami, and stacked bagel sandwiches.

There are plenty of new noshes in store, too, from sweet Marshmallow twists to a brand new handheld, The “Hot Reuben” with freshly-carved pastrami, pepperjack cheese, and a hot Giardinera Russian dressing created in collaboration with Chicago’s Caruso Provisions. A grab-and-go case takes care of family feasts, with heat-and-eat dinner entrees, nova by the pound, assorted deli salads, traditional Kasha Varnishkas with egg noodles and fried buckwheat seeds, and roasted veggies for the taking.

THE DRIPS

Guests will also be able to quench their thirst through a full coffee and espresso program in partnership with locally-owned Metropolis Coffee, serving as a breakfast pairing or afternoon pick-me-up with your favorite bagel and schmear. Schneider Deli’s barista experts will pour both hot and iced sips like lattes, cappuccinos, select seasonal creations with accents of vanilla and caramel, and other caffeinated concoctions that keep the all-day energy going.

Egg creams will be imparting their flavor on the coffee menu as well, plus retain their crown as an on-tap Schneider Deli classic. And for happy hour, select wines, locally-brewed beers, and canned cocktails will soon join the party to offer a pairing for evening outings.

THE OPENING DETAILS

Schneider Deli’s Lincoln Park location opens on April 1st, accepting walk-ins for counter service and with to-go orders also available online. The deli will also be available for private events and buyouts, fit for celebrations of all kinds.
