Outstanding in the Field, the roving restaurant without walls, will bring its signature open-air dining experience to Oriana’s Orchard in Winslow, Illinois, on Saturday, August 1, featuring leading Chicago chefs César Murillo of North Pond and Devon Quinn of Eden.
Founded in 1999, Outstanding in the Field hosts communal long-table dinners at farms, orchards, vineyards, beaches and other distinctive locations across the country. Each event brings the kitchen directly to the source, connecting diners with the farmers, chefs, artisans and landscapes behind the meal.
The August dinner will honor farmer Oriana Kruszewski, affectionately known as the “pear whisperer,” who has spent more than 50 years cultivating organic fruit in the challenging Illinois climate. Guests will dine among the orchard’s harvest as Murillo and Quinn create a hyper-seasonal menu showcasing its Asian pears, black currants, rare pawpaws and other locally grown ingredients.
Murillo, a Top Chef finalist known for blending technique with his Mexican heritage, shares a personal connection to Kruszewski and her farm, having recently collaborated with her to introduce trees from the orchard at North Pond. Quinn is also a longtime friend of Oriana and regularly utilizes the bounty from her orchard; he brings Eden’s produce-driven culinary philosophy and longstanding commitment to relationships between chefs, farmers and the land.
The experience will also feature wines from Chris and Sarah Pittenger of Gros Ventre Cellars.
The dinner takes place from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Oriana’s Orchard in Winslow, Illinois. Tickets are $390 per person and are available at outstandinginthefield.com.
