Now Open Bar Humboldt Park Ukrainian Village

At a glance: Now Open: Drama Club, a New Agave-Driven Cocktail Bar from Scofflaw Group

Scofflaw Group has debuted Drama Club at 819 N. California Ave., on the border of Ukrainian Village and Humboldt Park. The bar is the group's newest concept, following Scofflaw, Slippery Slope, Heavy Feather, Moonlighter and Outside Voices.

Drama Club builds on the spirit-driven approach the team has honed since opening Scofflaw in 2012. Where the flagship bar was built around gin, Drama Club channels that focus into an agave-driven cocktail program, backed by one of the largest tequila and mezcal collections in Chicago. The menu features both signature Drama Club drinks and takes on the classics. Standouts include the Offline Crush, a mezcal sour with salted cucumber juice, lime, green cardamom, and mint, and For Funsies, an espresso martini meets carajillo made with tequila, rum, Licor 43, cold brew, banana oleo, and a plantain chip garnish.

The bar is designed to be a hub for the neighborhood, with most cocktails priced at $12 and nightly DJ entertainment, including DJ Major Taylor and friends every Friday. Behind the black-brick exterior, the room is done in orange velvet, serpentine banquettes, and tropical greenery.

"We wanted to build a place where you can get a great drink at a great price in a beautiful room," said Scofflaw Group ownership. "This neighborhood is full of people who love a good bar, and we want Drama Club to be theirs."

Drama Club will be open Thursday through Sunday, 6pm to 2am, and until 3am on Saturdays. Strictly 21+. Walk-ins only. Bree Romero is General Manager and Jason Basa Nemec leads the bar program.
