Nic & Junior’s Tavern is introducing Rio After Work, a refreshed happy hour featuring an expanded selection of Brazilian cocktails, and Brazilian Cookout, a new Saturday afternoon grilling series on the patio.
At the heart of the new programming are the food and drink traditions of Brazil, where Chef and Owner Junior Borges was born and raised. Rio After Work centers around cachaça, the country’s national spirit, and includes new tropical offerings like the coconut-and passionfruit-laced Batida; the classic, lime-driven Caipirinha; and global adaptations made with vodka and sake. Available Tuesday-Saturday from 4-6 p.m., the new drinks join signature happy hour favorites like the N+J Martini and Guava Nova and authentic small plates like warm Pão de Queijo, house-made cheese fritters, and grilled Brazilian beach cheese.
In addition to the new after-work beverages, Brazilian Cookout, a weekly grilling series inspired by the traditional, open-air barbecues of Brazil, presents regional street-food flavors and techniques on the tavern’s patio just steps from the Chicago Riverwalk. Taking place every Saturday from 12-3 p.m., the series features rotating dish options like Brazilian-style Wagyu hot dogs (Cachorro Quente) paired with specialty priced cachaça cocktails, draught beers, and sodas.
