Burgers are one of the most diverse foods here in America. You can dress burgers up with an array of condiments, dress them down and just eat them with plain cheese on a bun, or even take them out to brunch by throwing an egg on the patty. National Burger Month is but once a year, and this May, Chicago restaurants have brought out the big guns and are celebrating in full force by cooking up some new burgers you have to try.
Parlay at Joy District
The recently opened Parlay at Joy District in River North is celebrating National Burger Month with the unveiling of some new burgers. Executive Chef Jason Hedin (formerly chef de cuisine of The Lobby at The Peninsula) has some serious chops in the kitchen and his new Parlay Burger is a must try. With a double beef patty, pork belly, American cheddar, pickle, lettuce, tomato, special sauce, and sunny-side up egg on a brioche bun, this burger is a mouthful. For the month of May, customers can pair it with a 3 Floyds Gumballhead for only $18.
MAK: Modern Asian Kitchen
MAK in Wicker Park has created two new burger specials just for National Burger Month. Check out their MAK Gogi Burger that has a half-pound of Angus beef hand-pattied, Korean marinated and topped with zesty cucumbers, or eat up their Spicy MAK Gogi Burger that has half-pound of Angus beef hand-pattied, Korean marinated and topped with a jalapeño cilantro paste. Both are served on a brioche bun with Togarashi fries for $12.
Roanoke in the Loop will feature a "Burger of the Moment" special which will have new burgers rotating through on a daily basis. The specials are available for $14 each at both lunch and dinner. Keep your eye out for their Grilled Steak Burger, Hawaiian Burger, Italian Burger, Pancetta Burger, Mushroom and Gruyere Burger and more.
Weber Grill Restaurant
Weber Grill Restaurant in River North will offer an exclusive chef-inspired burger created by their new Executive Chef David Rolon. The burger has a certified Angus beef patty topped with pulled BBQ baby back ribs, smoked onions, pickled vegetables and homemade mornay sauce. Throughout the month, 10 percent every burger sold will be donated to Chicago Catholic Charities. It will only be available during lunch time, so make sure to plan accordingly.
While the burgers might not be new at this Wicker Park late night haunt, Estelle's just released a new "Beer Pairing Menu" where you can pair their signature burgers with craft beers until 3 a.m. like the Surfer Rosa Burger (portobello, Swiss, red pepper) with a Miskatonic Catchpenny or the Point Break (pepper jack, grilled jalapeños and guacamole) with an Avery White Rascal. They will also serve up half-price burgers on Mondays and a $10 Loaded Nacho Burger on Sundays.
