Essential details: Hotel Chocolat Opens Fifth Chicago Location in Hubbard Woods

British chocolatier and cacao grower Hotel Chocolat is expanding its presence in the Chicago area with the opening of a new retail boutique in Hubbard Woods, bringing its signature chocolate collections and ethically sourced cacao to the North Shore community.

Located in the Hubbard Woods shopping district, the now-open boutique will offer guests the opportunity to explore Hotel Chocolat’s range of premium chocolate, including its signature truffles, filled chocolates, seasonal collections, and curated gifting assortments. The new location will primarily focus on retail, creating a neighborhood destination for everyday indulgence and gifting, just in time for Easter (April 5), Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4 – 8), Mother’s Day (May 10), and Father’s Day (June 21).

In this new store, chocolate fans can explore:

  • The Easter collection, featuring Hotel Chocolat’s signature grand Ostrich Eggs, measuring in at over two pounds of chocolate; Extra-Thick Eggs made with the thickest possible chocolate shell; the Pen Pals characters for Easter baskets, and much more.
  • Over 100 recipes in the Hotel Chocolat  “Wall of Chocolate”, with flavors ranging from Salted Espresso Martini, Tiramisu, and Raspberry & Pistachio Chocolate selectors.  Chocolate lovers can mix and match any three for $20.
  • The Velvetiser Café, in a new grab-and-go format, serving the brand's signature hot and cold drinking chocolate options in flavors like Salted Caramel, Mint, and Coconut-White.
  • The Wall of Velvetiser, where guests can mix and match up to five drinking chocolate flavors, designing their own box to enjoy at home.

Hotel Chocolat brought its chocolate-making to the United States, with Chicago as its first market in 2025. The brand selected Chicago, knowing that Chicagoans have a discerning palate and that the city is widely recognized as one of the country’s leading food destinations.

Hotel Chocolat grows its own cacao on their farm in Saint Lucia, where they partner with island growers, and they source the majority of their cacao for their chocolate from Ghana. Across both these locations, Hotel Chocolat runs programs with farmers where they pioneer and champion methods to grow cacao in a way that nurtures the environment, protects biodiversity and empowers farmers to boost their yields and incomes. They call it gentle farming.

“From our cacao farm to our retail shops, Hotel Chocolat cares deeply about making connections in the local communities in which we do business,” says Kelly Goering, General Manager, Hotel Chocolat US. “As a resident of the North Shore, I’m eager for this incredible community to experience the magic of Hotel Chocolat. The quality and care put into our jaw-dropping chocolate collections for each season and holiday, our awe-inspiring chocolate gifts, and creative drinking chocolate café, are sure to leave a lasting impression.”

The new Hotel Chocolat store will be located at 912 Green Bay Rd, Winnetka, IL 60093. As part of their grand opening, guests can stop by this location on Saturday, April 4, to try various chocolate samples, experience their drinking chocolate, and learn more about the brand. The first 75 customers will receive a gift with purchase. Location hours are Monday - Saturday: 11AM- 8PM and Sundays: 11AM- 4PM.
