Geja’s Café, located at 340 W. Armitage Avenue, has recently reopened their doors to guests, and to also celebrate their 55th anniversary beginning Friday, July 24 and running through Thursday, August 20. Throughout the special four-week celebration, patrons can try the cheese fondue and dipping sauce from their annual dipping sauce and cheese fondue contest, along with an exclusive giveaway that gives guests a way to donate and show support for the Geja’s Staff Relief Fund and the employees, while also having the opportunity to win a painting by Chicago native, Josh Moulton.  

“In a year of unprecedented times, we wanted to celebrate Geja’slong history of romantic fondue dining, fine wines and live classical and flamenco guitarist,” said Proprietor Jeff Lawler. “While our anniversary is celebrated at the end of June, now that we are open, although only at 25% capacity, we still wanted to bring that same great excitement to all our friends.”
 
Geja’s hosted their eleventh annual cheese fondue and dipping sauce contest these past few weeks, receiving over 20 submissions of new and recipes. The winning cheese fondue is a Cheddar-Monterey Jack Cheese Fondue crafted by Lori and Tim Silagyi, and the winning dipping sauce is a Honey Chipotle Sauce made by Charles Blatt, a long time regular of Geja’s Café who also won last year’s sauce contest, and who is already planning to go for a three-peat next yearThe Cheddar-Monterey Jack Cheese Fondue and Honey Chipotle Sauce will both be featured at Geja’s for the duration of the 55th anniversary celebration.
 
This year has proven to be difficult for so many local businesses, including Geja'sBecause they have only been able to open up at 25% capacity, Geja’s was only able to bring back 13 of their 35 employees. Back in April, Jeff Lawler and his team started the Geja’s Staff’s Go Fund Me as a way to raise money to support the team members laid off. To date, Geja’s raised $17,000 of their $20,000 goal. As another special way to celebrate their 55th anniversary and the employees, any patron who donates $55 to the Staff’s Go Fund Me will be entered into a raffle where they have the chance to win a framed 35” x 28” painting by Josh Moulton that pays special homage to the restaurantJosh Moulton, son of artist Conrad Moulton, has been painting as his full-time career in Chicago for the past 17 years, drawing on his life experience and personal travels as inspiration for his paintings, many of which can be found throughout the city. Beginning in August, hours for Geja’s Café are Wednesday and Thursday, 5 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. to 10:00p.m.; Sunday, 4p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
