Background file: Dine Out for a Cause This May: Support Foster Care Awareness Month
One Hope United, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children, youth, and families through foster care, early childhood education, and mental health services, launches its first annual Sip & Share for Foster Care campaign in recognition of National Foster Care Awareness Month this May.
More than 391,000 children are currently in foster care across the United States, including over 16,000 in Illinois alone.
“Children in foster care didn’t choose their circumstances, but we can choose how we respond,” said Damon Cates, President & CEO of One Hope United. “This campaign turns something as simple as ordering a drink or meal into direct support for programs that provide mental health care, educational support, and basic necessities for youth in foster care.”
Restaurants in Illinois are participating by donating $1 from designated menu items throughout the entire month of May.
Current restaurant partners include:
120 Live Bartlett – $1 from every Sunset Berry Spritz Cocktail
