Al’s #1 Italian Beef, located at 1079 W Taylor St. Chicago, is hosting a James Beard Awards Ancillary Event on Saturday June 3rd at its flagship location. Beef & Bandidos, an awards weekend happy hour, will be co-hosted by Blackhawks Hall-of-Famer Chris Chelios and feature three Chicago brands: Al’s Beef (the first beef stand in Chicago founded in 1938), Mario’s Italian Lemonade (founded in 1954), and El Bandido Yankee Tequila, co-founded by Chelios and Former NFL Player, business leader and philanthropist Jim Bob Morris.

From 3:30-6pm, The event will feature Italian beef sandwiches and fries from Al’s Beef, Mario’s Italian Lemonade infused with El Bandido Yankee tequila, specialty tequila cocktails, tunes spun by DJ RicoTheJuiceMan, trivia and more.

  • Chris Chelios, Chris Pacelli and Mario DiPaolo will share personal tales of historic Taylor Street and Little Italy—including anecdotes about the Chicago “Outfit,” the early days of Italian beef, and the story behind Mario’s Italian lemonade.
  • Chelios will be autographing collectibles.
  • Premium gift boxes and items will be given away throughout the day.
  • 77 Flavors of Chicago will be in the house and adding to the festivities with a comedic game of trivia (with prizes).
