Located just blocks from Guaranteed Rate Field – home of the Chicago White Sox – Fabulous Freddie’s on 31st, a family-owned neighborhood eatery, just launched a new "Yermínator" Chimi Burger featuring Domincan flavors to make Yermín Mercedes, the new White Sox rookie, feel right at home in Bridgeport.

Having already kicked off the 2021 season with a record-hitting streak consisting of 8-straight hits against the Kansas City Royals, Yermín blasted a 485-foot home run – the third longest home run ever at Guaranteed Rate Field – during the White Sox Home Opener. At the time this was published, Yermín is leading all of Major League Baseball with a .556 batting average into the first eight games into the season.

To celebrate Yermín, his start to the season and his heritage as a native of the Dominican Republic, Fabulous Freddie’s on 31st will serve a single Yermínator Chimi Burger, inspired by traditional Dominican street food, for $4.85 to match the distance of his 485-foot Opening Day home run.

What is a Chimi burger?

A Dominican Chimichurri Burger is traditional Dominican street food. The burger patties are made with ground beef and seasoned with Dominican flavors. This flavorful burger is topped with tomatoes, slightly pickled red onions, shredded cabbage, and a big spoonful of their secret Chimichurri Sauce.

Who is Yermin Mercedes?

Mercedes is a 28-year-old professional baseball player who signed with the Nationals as and has been in professional baseball for a decade. He signed with the Nationals as an international free agent in 2011 when we arrived in America from the Dominican Republic. After being release by The Nationals in 2013, he played for a American Southwest Minor League and was then signed by the Baltimore Orioles as a minor league free agent in 2014.

Three years after that the White Sox signed Mercedes in a minor league draft. Throughout his 10-year professional career he has remained a hitting machine but only made it to the Major League level last year when he made his MLB debut with only 1 at-bat Aug. 2, 2020. The White Sox decided to bring him up for the start of the 2021 season and Mercedes hasn’t looked back since.
