Nevin’s Brewing Company, 12337 South Route 59, Plainfield, claimed a gold award in the 2018 World Beer Cup, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers.

Awards were given in 101 beer-style categories during the World Beer Cup award ceremony on May 3, 2018 at Music City Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Nevin’s Brewing Company was awarded a gold award in the Vienna-Style Lager beer style category for its Midnight Pig “Hook and Hatchet,” Nevin’s Brewing Company’s interpretation of a Vienna-style lager in which a variety of high kilned, crystal and roasted malts are used to produce this copper hued, pretzely, malty, with a hint of caramel, brew.

“We are so excited to have our Midnight Pig beer recognized as one of the best by World Beer Cup,” said Ed Carrella, CEO of Sonas Hospitality. “Having just launched the Midnight Pig beer brand last year, it is an honor for our team that our new creation has taken home the gold.”

The signature Midnight Pig beer, brewed at Nevin’s Brewing Company in Plainfield, is served at Nevin’s Brewing Co., along with a handful of Chicagoland restaurants and bars including Pete Miller’s Naperville, Pete Miller’s Evanston, The Kerry Piper, Muldoon’s, Midnight Pig Tap Room and more. Midnight Pig is also available for purchase at local retailers such as Binny’s, Malloy’s Finest Wines and Sprits, and Beer on the Wall. Their local, craft beers including Apocalyptinator, Hook & Hatchet, Shamefaced, Snitches Get Stitches, Tumultuous and Pinched, are brewed year round with special seasonal releases.

World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 295 beer judges from 33 countries, 72 percent of whom were from outside the United States.  Widely regarded as the “Olympics of Beer,” the World Beer Cup saw an impressive field of 8,234 entries from 2,515 breweries in 66 countries—the largest competition to date.
