Food Festival Burgers

Chicago Gourmet’s 2022 Hamburger Hop returned to the Harris Theater rooftop at Millennium Park to crown burger masters, with Chef Corey Grupe (Burger Federation) and Master Chef Kwame Onwuachi (Lexus Culinary) coming out on top. 

Emceed by celebrity chef Stephanie Izard, the evening was filled with burgers, frosty brews, wines, cocktails, music and skyline views as 15 chefs grilled their hearts out for burger bragging rights.

A panel of celebrity judges deliberated to name Chef Corey Grupe the Buckhead Meat Chicago Judges’ Award Winner.  His prizefighter, “The Little Miss Figgy Burger,” featured camembert and fig fondue with bacon vindaloo topped with pickled pepper relish on a Turano Brioche Bun.  Meanwhile, Chef Kwame Onwuachi earned the People’s Choice Award for his creationg, “The Truffle Burger,” complete with taleggio smoked mozzarella cheese, shredded romaine and shaved truffles atop a Turano Potato Bun.

Burgers were judged on a range of characteristics, including flavor, creativity and presentation.  Winners took home a Buckhead Meat Certified Angus Beef Gift Bundle and a magnum of fine wine from Josh Cellars.
