Chef Dominique Tougne & Chad Bertelsman have introduced a new counter service concept in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, blocks away from its sister restaurant, Chez Moi. Officially opening Tuesday, November 17th, French Quiche is a neighborhood French café serving an array of sandwiches, soups, flatbreads, salads, crepes, breads, sweets, and bien sur, quiche. Located at 2210 N. Halsted, this New Orleans French Quarter clad, café, is designed for grab-and-go coffee, breakfast, lunch & dinner items.
“French Quiche has been a dream of mine for the last several years,” says Chef Dominique. “An opportunity opened up with a storefront only blocks away from Chez Moi and it was meant to be.” A true sign of the times, French Quiche focuses on carryout and catering, accommodating people who are dining out less, but still looking to bring home a chef quality meal every week. “I wanted to offer a solution while also bringing a true Parisian café, boulangerie and patisserie experience to the locals.”
Inspired by the New Orleans French Quarter, the sitting area in the front of the 2500 sq-ft space overlooks Halsted street through sunlit floor-to-ceiling windows. Antique furniture mixed with modern bistro tables fill the space and local art, ironwork and ferns adorn the walls. A private courtyard is located in back, furnished with iron patio sets, classical urns and garden statuary for a complete French Quarter vibe.
Mostly under $10, the menu features classic café items to order in advance for pickup as well as counter service. As a native of France, Chef Dominique brings a French quality to the café with favorites like fresh-to-order crepes, pastries and baguette sandwiches.
“We wanted to create a spot that was welcoming and affordable,” says Chad Bertelsman, Co-owner of French Quiche. “Our goal is to become a local neighborhood favorite, just like we have established with Chez Moi. We’re the place you bring friends and family to try when they come visit.”
Menuhighlights include: Quiche Lorraine – bacon, onions, Swiss cheese, eggs, and heavy cream; Quiche Parisienne – Brie cheese, ham, Swiss cheese, eggs, and heavy cream; Cilegini Mozzarella Salad – cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, baby spinach, and Dijon vinaigrette; Le Jambon Beurre – French baguette, butter, ham, cornichons, and Dijon mustard; Alsatian Flatbread – pastry, sour cream, onions, and bacon; Crepes aux Chocolat – crepe, Nutella, roasted hazelnuts, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream; Ham & Cheese Crepes – crepes, sour cream, ham, Swiss cheese au gratin; and more. Breads & pastries available include Baguette, Croissant, Pain au Chocolate, Vanilla Crème Brulée, Chocolate Mousse, and Apple Tart. Classic French Onion Soup will be a standard menu item along with a featured Soup du Jour.
Coffee and espresso drinks will be available including decaffeinated options, a variety of hot and iced teas including Vybes CBD Tea, Perrier in various flavors, and more. Coming soon will be Plats Cuisines ($19), individual meals ready to heat and ordered for one or more. The dinners come in microwavable containers, but can also be reheated with proper cookware in the oven. Guests can expect meals like Beef Bourguignon and Coq au Vin.
French Quiche will also offer a full range of catering packages perfect for home, office or picnics. Packages can serve from 10 – 100 guests with Bespoke Menu Planning available, allowing for more personalized catering where guests can create their own selection. When people are able to gather safely again, French Quiche is available for private party bookings with the capability to host 24 seated guests inside and 20 outside in the courtyard.
Guest and employee safety are the top priority of French Quiche. They are taking precaution with safety protocols provided by the CDC. Stickers with the Fleur-de-Lis are placed throughout the restaurant to help guests maintain a six-foot distance while waiting to order. Hand Sanitizer is provided throughout the restaurant and plexi-glass is in place to avoid contact between the kitchen team and guests.
