Reporting notes: Chef Charlie McKenna Hosts BBQ Charity Event at Goose Island April 25
Chef Charlie McKenna of Lillie’s Q will host the first Barbecure: BBQ & Beer for a Cure event at the Goose Island Barrel Warehouse (603 N Sacramento Blvd) on Thursday, April 25th. From 7-10 PM, guests will be offered signature barbecue dishes along with beer pairings by Goose Island, interactive barbecue cooking demonstrations led by chef McKenna, a Bourbon Barrel Warehouse tour and tasting, a silent auction and more. Proceeds from the inaugural Barbcure event will benefit Bright Pink in support of breast and ovarian cancer education and prevention and The Katherine McKenna Brothers Foundation, which honors chef McKenna’s aunt who died of breast cancer and provides a scholarship for the all-women’s school Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia.
Chef McKenna and Lillie’s Q created Barbecure as a means to give back to families and communities dealing with the hardships of cancer. Barbecure will raise funds through various events, specialty product sales and donations throughout the year.
