The full picture: Boonies Brings Filipino Flavor to TenGoku's Bento & Co. Series for AANHPI Month

Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month is quickly approaching, and two of Chicago’s AANHPI restaurants are celebrating through collaboration: Boonies and TenGoku Aburiya!

Chef Joe Fontelera brings his personal take on Filipino American food and culture to TenGoku’s next Bento & Co. lunch box series. This two-week special explores the intersection of Japanese and Filipino cuisine through a Chicken Inasal Leg bento box. Inside, find a tender chicken inasal leg, marinated in a vinegary blend and served with pinakurat dipping sauce, alongside fresh papaya salad, rice dressed in chicken drippings, comforting beef lumpia (a Filipino staple), tamagoyaki (a Japanese rolled omelet), and ume shiso hosomaki (a pickled plum and herb-filled roll).

Priced at $20, the collaboration will be available during weekday lunch hours at TenGoku from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 12th, through Friday, May 22th. As with all Bento & Co. collaborations, a portion of proceeds from each box sold will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository, supporting efforts to fight food insecurity and provide meals to those in need.
