Bhoomi,” the Sanskrit word for earth or land, is a modern Indian dining concept focused on fresh, organic, and grilled food. The menu features seafood, chicken, paneer, and meats.

Founded by the husband-and-wife team of Ajit and Sukhu Kalra, Bhoomi is an homage to Ajit’s father, Jiggs Kalra. The menu is based on recipes created by Ajit and Jiggs. The restaurant is slated to open September 22, 2021, in Chicago’s new Urbanspace food hall located at 15 W. Washington St.

"At Bhoomi, our mission is to introduce the joys to grilled Indian cuisine to the US market and palette, while being good stewards of the land. We are an ingredient driven restaurant that puts quality and technique at the forefront.” says co-founder Ajit Kalra. “With this new concept, I am proud to continue my father’s legacy.”

At Bhoomi, you'll find an emphasis on what is, in the words of Kalra, “the greatest and most underrepresented of all Indian food—freshly prepared, grilled Indian kebabs.” Prepare your palate for quinoa pilaf bowls, organic phulka rotis topped with marinated, kebabs and housemade herb-driven chutneys.

“From sustainably sourced salmon and prawns to pasture-raised beef and organic paneer, we are obsessed with sourcing the highest quality, chemical and preservative free ingredients. For instance, we could not find a suitable organic phulka roti in the market, so we decided to make our own from scratch. We partner with small, family-owned farms that are committed to sustainable practices that align with our ethos of respect for the land,” says Co-Founder Sukhu Kalra, who prior to opening Bhoomi, established and managed a successful food truck business. “Our creations are the perfect balance of gastronomic indulgence and wholesome eating, while crave-worthy flavors are at the core of our food.”
