To adapt to the most recent COVID-19 restrictions, Avli River North (702 N. Wells St) has announced the launch of its “Greek street food” menu, offered for pick-up and delivery only. Reminiscent of the cuisine found in Greece, the main attraction of the menu is the pita sandwiches, with both classic and artisanal options.
Classic pita sandwich options include the Twisted Gyros, with rotisserie-broiled, hand-stacked pork slices served with tomato, red onion, tzatziki, fries, feta crumbles and Greek spices in a pita ($9) and the Twisted Chicken Souvlaki, with char-grilled, marinated chicken breast skewer served with tomato, onion, boukovo (spicy ground red pepper) mayo, fries, feta crumbles and Greek spices in a pita ($8). Artisanal, contemporary options include the Shrimp Pita, with wild-caught shrimp baked in shredded filo, fresh mint, pickled red onions and garlic dressing ($12) and the Veggie Pita, with sweet potato, eggplant, fresh herbs, tomato, pickled red onions and harissa hummus dressing ($9).
Additional menu items include Mini Mezes (personal sized Spicy Tzatziki, a spicy yogurt cucumber dip with pita chips, $4); Salads (Chickpea Salad with cherry tomatoes, grilled romaine, diced bell peppers, onion, pita croutons and tahini dressing, $6 ); and Soups (Avgolemono Soup, a cup of traditional egg-lemon, chicken and rice soup, $5). The new Chocolate Baklava Bar is offered as dessert for just $3.
The Avli carry out menu is available now and offered seven days a week for lunch and dinner via Tock and GrubHub.
