aliveOne will celebrate its 30th anniversary this fall with several weeks of events, ticket giveaways and charitable initiatives leading up to a private anniversary party on Oct. 16. The Lincoln Park bar, located at Halsted and Schubert, opened in December 1996 and has maintained a focus on live music and recordings throughout its three decades.
The bar takes its name from its 100-CD jukebox devoted exclusively to live recordings. Its back room regularly hosts live bands without a cover charge and becomes a late-night dance floor on weekends. The space also houses a collection of commercially released live concert recordings on CD and analog tape, along with photographs and music memorabilia spanning six decades. “Music has always been at the heart of aliveOne,” said David Halpern, Managing Partner at Four Entertainment Group (4EG). “For 30 years, we’ve been a place to discover a band, hear an incredible live recording, dance with friends or simply grab a drink and enjoy the music. Reaching this milestone is really a celebration of everyone who has been part of aliveOne along the way, especially the incredible staff and guests who have helped shape the bar over the last three decades.”
The anniversary will also recognize longtime bartender Brad Price, who recently died. Price began as an aliveOne regular before working at the bar from 2005 to 2015 and created its 15th anniversary poster, which remains on display. “No one embodied the spirit of aliveOne more than Brad,” said Halpern. “He started as a regular, became a longtime employee and ultimately became part of the family. Honoring him as we celebrate 30 years feels incredibly meaningful.” Every Thursday from Sept. 10 through Oct. 15, the bar will give away two sets of tickets to its private anniversary party at approximately 9 p.m., with $1 from every drink sold during the Thursday events donated to Price’s family to help with medical expenses.
Anniversary Week runs Oct. 10–16 and will feature the Track 30 cocktail, made with Crown Royal, lemon, simple syrup, Pimm’s and ginger beer and priced at $14. For each cocktail sold, aliveOne will donate $1 to All City Performing Arts, which supports music education and performance opportunities for Chicago students. The week concludes Oct. 16 with a private anniversary party featuring Omega Moos, whose lineup includes members of Umphrey’s McGee and The New Deal, along with the Justin Canavan Organ Trio and DJ Boathouse. Tickets will not be sold and can only be won through the Thursday giveaways.
