Streeterville

4 STAR Restaurant Group, the team behind neighborhood restaurants such as Smoke Daddy and Crosby’s Kitchen has made the decision to permanently close The Windsor due to challenges they have faced surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 5,000-sq-foot Streeterville bar and restaurant located at 160 E Huron opened in July 2015 and was a frequent dining choice for neighboring Northwestern Memorial Hospital staff, family and patients, along with guests staying at the adjoining Homewood Suites.

“After Governor Pritzker ordered all bars and restaurant dining rooms closed in mid-March, we had to let go of nearly 500 4 Star employees and temporarily shut the doors to five of our nine Chicagoland locations,” said Doug Dunlay, one of 4 Star Restaurant Group’s owners. “It was extremely difficult for us to transition our business model to a pick-up and carryout operation as mandated by the State – and even with federal assistance, it proved too much for The Windsor to overcome.”

As they continue to move on, 4 Star’s owners "thank the community, their amazing staff, guests and vendors for making The Windsor a part of the Streeterville community for the last five years."

“We are so very grateful for our Windsor family and their continuous hard work and dedication that made this location such a special place,” said Derek Rettell, owner of 4 Star.

The restaurant’s 35 employees will be offered a severance package and many will be eligible for rehire at another 4 Star Restaurant Group location.

4 Star’s leadership team continues to prioritize the well-being of their employees and the neighborhoods that they all live and work in. From raising nearly $50,000 for their team out of work, to feeding more than 20,000 frontline hospital workers in Chicago, the future remains unknown.

“The destructive effect that the coronavirus shutdown has had on the hospitality industry is devastating not just for our 4 Star family, but for our city, said Dunlay. “If the forced shutdown extends into June, you will see many more restaurants closing their doors for good.”
