Craft Cocktails Bar Gold Coast

Fall’s favorite fruit and the spirits it yields — apple brandy and cider —are the focus of this month’s Wanderlust at Z Bar, the rooftop bar that opened in June at The Peninsula Chicago.

The interactive class, led by Vlad Novikov, Z Bar’s Director of Cocktails & Culture, will explore the American history of fermented apple products going back to colonial times and the current renaissance taking place among artisanal producers of brandy and cider (not the kid stuff).

During the class, guests will make and enjoy three apple-themed cocktails and assemble a take-home satchel of ingredients for making their own apple cider. Tailored to 10 guests, the class coincides with Wanderlust Live, Z Bar’s supplemental video series released on Instagram and Facebook.

All month, the Z Bar menu also will feature a spirit-free Hot Spiced Apple Cider ($6) and Citizen Cider’s Unified Press ($12), the flagship cider from the Burlington, Vermont company, as well as apple brandies from the following distillers: Copper & Kings in Bardstown, Kentucky; Laird & Company in Colts Neck, N.J., St. George of Alameda, California; and Chicago’s own Rhine Hall.

Upcoming sessions in the Wanderlust series will focus on Beaujolais in November and mulled wine in December. This month's Wanderlust class will take place on October 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $50.
