Joy District and Hubbard Inn Team Up for Kentucky Derby Day Party

Joy District and Hubbard Inn are teaming up for an event and their first ever combined party with a Kentucky Derby Day Party on Saturday, May 4 at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $10 and will include entry to both Hubbard Inn and Joy District, drink specials including $4 Bud Light and $9 Mint Julips, light appetizers from Executive Chef Jason Hedin, live music, and entry to win prizes. Guests are encouraged to dress in their best derby attire as there will be contests for best seersucker suit and best hat for a cash prize. Both locations will broadcast the race with sound on.

Cinco de Derby Party & Turtle Races at HVAC

  • $5 to $7 drink specials

HVAC Pub in Wrigleyville will host a Cinco de Derby party on Saturday, May 4 broadcasting the Kentucky Derby on all TVs with full sound. While guests enjoy Turtle Races upstairs, they can sip on specials like $5 Coronas and $7 Mint Juleps. There will also be a best seersucker suit and hat contest for a chance to win Cubs tickets.

Kentucky Derby Mint Julep Special at Tuscany on Taylor

Guests can catch all the 2019 Kentucky Derby action at Tuscany on Taylor St. and enjoy $10 Mint Juleps along with seasonally influenced Italian cuisine as they watch the race on the TVs in the bar area. 

Kentucky Derby Mint Julep Special at Tuscany in Wheeling

Guests who visit Tuscany in Wheeling will enjoy $7 Mint Juleps as they watch the 2019 Kentucky Derby on the TVs in the bar area. While watching the race, diners can also choose from a menu curated by Executive Chef Bolla Loza featuring pasta dishes, steaks, seafood and pizza from the wood burning oven along with a well-rounded gluten free menu.

Z BAR

At Z Bar (108 E Superior St.), the Peninsula’s rooftop lounge, Derby Day will be in full swing from 11 a.m. to 7 p. m. on Saturday, May 4. Z Bar will feature Elijah Craig Mint Juleps, live derby coverage, beats by REDUX, and more. For $35, infinite mint juleps are available by purchasing ahead here. Guests are invited to wear hats and derby attire, and the best-dressed guests will be eligible for prizes including The Peninsula Chicago’s afternoon tea for two, chocolate bar experience for two, and tickets to the Wanderlust cocktail series.

GEMINI AND WALTON STREET

Don’t own a fancy hat but still want to celebrate the races? On Saturday, May 4, Gemini (2075 N Lincoln Ave.) in Lincoln Park and Walton Street Kitchen + Bar (912 N State St.) in the Gold Coast are stops for an evening meal and some celebratory mint juleps ($10). They’ll make sure the sound is on for the two most exciting minutes in sport.

UNTITLED

For a viewing party, head to Untitled Supper Club (111 W Kinzie St.) starting at 2 p.m. and watch the Derby in your best suit or a fancy hat on their giant gilded video wall in the Whiskey Library. Featuring live bluegrass music by 'Can I Get An Amen', the party is complimentary and a portion of the proceeds will be given to Back 2 School Illinois. Guests can expect food and drink specials, a derby raffle, indoor croquet, a hat contest, best attire contest and more.

Jake Melnick's

$6 Mint Juleps, $7 Kentucky Bourbon Ale, $12 Founder's Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and a Hot Brown Turkey Burger ($12.95). Jake's will also be hosting a Derby Hat Contest. 1st place wins a $25 gift card, 2nd place a t-shirt, and 3rd place a $10 gift card. 

The J.Parker

The J.Parker will be partaking in Kentucky Derby festivities on Saturday, May 4 from 2-7pm. The rooftop bar will be honoring the event with a Speciality Julep cocktail line up presented by Makers Mark, in addition to partnering with PAWS to donate a portion of proceeds and run a 50/50 raffle throughout the afternoon. Hats, bowties, and accessories are encouraged! The event is free and open to the public with the option to reserve a VIP table that includes a bottle of bubbles.

etta

The Bucktown spot will be hosting a Kentucky Derby party on their rooftop complete with pig, pizza and bourbon this Saturday.

The party starts at 2pm and no reservations are needed. Drinks and food are offered à la carte including etta’s Pig Picnic - crispy belly & fire-roasted shoulder with marinated cucumbers, chimichurri, lettuce cups, serrano condiment & refreshingly spicy things.

Other party highlights include:

As one of the few rooftops in Bucktown, etta’s rooftop includes an indoor and outdoor space that provides greenery and string lights adorning the outdoor space.
