Coming Soon Spanish River North

José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup announced that its Jaleo brand will open in the River North neighborhood of Chicago in mid-2020, at 500 North Clark Street. Jaleo brings alive the spirit and flavors of Spain as seen through the lens of Spanish Chef Andrés and his team.

“Jaleo was my first restaurant in the U.S., bringing a piece of Spain to this great country,” said Chef Andrés. “Now, it has found a home in one of the best food cities in the world! Chicago, here we come!”

Jaleo takes a cue from the Spanish word for “revelry” and offers a tapas experience in a setting befitting of its name. The new Chicago location will be the first Jaleo location in the region and the sixth in the U.S.

“Friedman Properties is pleased to welcome José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup,” said Albert Friedman, CEO and Chairman of Friedman Properties which owns the 500 North Clark building. “Their unique, world renowned Spanish cuisine will enrich the Chicago dining experience, while complementing our diverse collection of River North restaurants.”

The flagship location of Jaleo, Chef Andrés’ first restaurant, opened its doors in downtown Washington, D.C., in 1993 and played a role in bringing the concept of tapas and small plates to American diners. Jaleo currently has five locations across the U.S. – including three in the Washington D.C., area, one at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and most recently at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resorts in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Its DC location has earned a Michelin “Bib Gourmand” distinction the past three years and was a 2019 finalist for the James Beard Foundation’s “Outstanding Restaurant” award.
