The weather may be cooling down but the Chicago dining scene is heating up this fall. This November, get in on the final installment of the Blackbird at 20 dinner series as Canadian chef Jeremy Charles steps into the kitchen, celebrate food and music as Big Star debuts a new DJ series and Anker welcomes Rhine Hall Distillery and Pipeworks Brewing Co. for a multi-course collaborative dinner.

FUNKY COWBOY

DATE: November 1st , December 6th

TIME: 8 p.m. - 12 a.m.
DETAILS: Big Star is pumping the party up a notch with Funky Cowboy, a recurring dance party hosted at the honky tonk’s two locations. Every first Thursday of the month starting on November 1st, Big Star will dim the lights and trade its typical vinyl playlist of country and classic rock & roll for a boogie-worthy mix of soul, disco, dance and R&B hits spun by Ben Fasman and Laurent Lebec at Wicker Park and Adam LeBlanc at Wrigleyville. Amazing drink deals like $2 Schlitzes, $2 shots of Evan Williams and $7 specialty Funky Cowboy cocktails will be sure to warm up those dancing shoes and keep guests grooving through the night. 

FRIENDS & FAMILY NIGHT AT BIG STAR

DETAILS: Celebrating food, music and the Chicago community, Big Star will kick off its new Friends & Family series by inviting Bad Hunter Executive Chef Dan Snowden and Head Bartender Vinny Starble for a night benefitting the Chicago Food Depository, in which proceeds and donations will be collected for the local organization. While jamming to records spun by DJ Adam Luksetich, guests will enjoy collaborative food and cocktail specials from the Big Star and Bad Hunter teams in addition to deals on Solemn Oath cans and drafts. Throughout the week, Big Star will also be accepting non-perishable food items for donation during business hours from November 12th - 18th. 

TURKEY TUESDAY AT BIG STAR

LOCATION: Big Star Wicker Park (1531 N Damen Ave, Chicago) and Big Star Wrigleyville (3640 N Clark St)
DETAILS: Skip Blackout Wednesday and pre-game Thanksgiving by gobbling down on some bird-themed F&B specials with Big Star’s appropriately named Turkey Tuesday. Hosted at both Big Star locations in Wicker Park and Wrigleyville, snack on Mexican-street-food-style turkey tacos crafted by Brand Chef Julie Warpinski and sip on bourbon and rye poured by Wild Turkey. Guests will also be “thankful" for an opportunity to enter a booze raffle and take something home for their own holiday gathering.

BLACKBIRD AT 20 DINNER SERIES FEATURING CANADIAN CHEF JEREMY CHARLES

DETAILS: In honor of the 20th anniversary of Blackbird, the West Loop restaurant, Executive Chef-Partner Paul Kahan and current Chef de Cuisine Ryan Pfeiffer are inviting some chefs in North America to collaborate on a dinner series titled "Blackbird at 20.” For the final installment of the series, Paul is inviting Canadian chef and co-owner of award-winning Newfoundland restaurant, Raymonds, Chef Jeremy Charles into the kitchen for a multi-course dinner. 

BLACKBIRD’S LITTLE BLACKBIRD MENU

LOCATION: 619 West Randolph St. 
DETAILS: Blackbird, the 2019 Michelin-starred restaurant in the West Loop, has debuted an all-new “petite early bird menu” called Little Blackbird in order to provide a quick and pared down option for those that like to get in early, go see a show, or just enjoy tasting and sampling at a more casual price point. Available from 5:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m., Sunday-Thursday, The Little Blackbird menu offers a selection of expertly paired bites and beverages, along with an abbreviated version of their seasonal 8-10 course tasting menu.

LUNCH PRIX-FIXE MENU AT AVEC

LOCATION: 615 W. Randolph St. 
DETAILS: Looking for a new midday meal option in the West Loop? Stop by avec to sample a brand new, choose-your-own-lunch prix-fixe menu for $24. Available 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday - Friday, the menu offers a choice of one each of either a soup, salad or snack, one small plate, and one dessert from the regular menu. Guests have the option to craft their own meal of Mediterranean-inspired favorites like avec's renowned chorizo-stuffed medjool dates served with bacon and piquillo pepper-tomato sauce, charred sweet potato with salted yogurt, sukkah and chili-lime vinaigrette and lavender baked yogurt with plum compote and sesame.

DETAILS: Join Executive Chef Paul Kahan as he invites Chef David Campigotto of Chez David in Castelnaudary, France to create his casserole of meat and beans during a five-night dinner series at Publican Quality Meats and Anker. Guests will indulge in the rich and savory delicacy, created by Chef Campigotto with ingredients flown in from Southern France and named Chef Kahan’s premier cassoulet pick.

DETAILS: To celebrate the release of Pipeworks Brewing Co.’s Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Jones Dog, Anker has invited the local brewery along with Rhine Hall Distillery to host a 4-course collaborative dinner featuring specialty shot and beer pairings. The menu will feature a sampling of Anker’s signature Midwestern-inspired cuisine by Chef de Cuisine AJ Walker including Duck Heart Toast (grilled chicories, blue cheese and tabasco creama), Chicken Wings (garam masala, spiced honey, methi ranch), Sweet Potatoes (peppers, amba spice, ricotta salata) and Apple Créme Brûlée (cranberries, menthi cake). Each course will be paired with selections of complementing brews and spirits from Pipeworks and Rhine Hall.

DETAILS: Bust a beat and enjoy some classic Chicago-style BBQ at the latest installment of Dove's monthly music and meat series. Enjoy a hearty menu of dishes featuring rib tips and sausage along with some of Chef Tom Carlin's greatest hits from previous BBQ and Breaks nights. Guests will also be able to imbibe in whiskey and mezcal old fashions and other drink specials while they jam to a curated soundtrack of breakbeat music.
